Apple has released quite a few new products over the last few weeks. The new iPhone XS and iPhone XR have generally gotten good reviews. The iPhone XR in particular is getting glowing reviews for essentially providing identical performance to the iPhone XS, but for a noticeably cheaper price.
But this week, a few new updated products officially went up for sale to consumers. The new iPad Pros, Mac Minis, and the new MacBook Air are now available, and the reviews are starting to come in for those products.

The new 11-inch and 12.9 inch iPad Pro:
Reviewers all seem to agree that these new iPads deliver excellent performance and speed similar to what you would expect from a MacBook or PC computer. It is a serious tablet for those who need serious power, but it does come at a pretty steep price. To get the most from these iPads, you really want the Smart Keyboard Folio and the new Apple pencil. And so very quickly, you’re going to end up spending at least $1100, which is not cheap for a tablet. Add the fact it has no headphone jack and it only has USB-C port, and it becomes clear that it’s not an iPad for everyone. But the Apple pencil is certainly much improved, particularly when it comes to charging. Maybe most importantly, there’s not an efficient way to multitask with these. So, these will certainly fill a niche market for some creatives and iPad power users. But they may not have a massive appeal to more general users who don’t want to break the bank for a tablet.

The new Mac mini:
The reviews for this new Mac mini have been overwhelmingly positive. The Mac mini hadn’t been updated since 2014, so this was a much needed update. The price tag jumps from $500 to $800 or $1100 depending on the model you choose, but this is a significant update to the Mac Mini. The Mac mini does not come with its own keyboard or display, so you need to provide your own. But the sheer flexibility of the Mac mini is that makes it so appealing. It is a very small computer, but with plenty of ports. They have an Ethernet port, 4 Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports, an HDMI port, and 2 USB 3 ports. So, you can hook them up to all sorts of stuff. They also support up to 3 external displays. So, that’s a lot of connections and expansion possibilities. In my opinion, these new Mac minis offer a lot of bang for the buck. You can also add more RAM to these yourself, which could save you a lot of money compared to buying it directly from Apple.

The new MacBook Air:
Here, the reviews are not so positive. In general, most reviewers have found this new MacBook Air a little lacking in power. Part of the appeal of the new MacBook Air is that they are very light at 2.75 pounds. These new MacBooks also come with a Retina Display, which definitely a nice improvement over previous models. They also feature¬† Touch ID, the latest-generation keyboard, and a Force Touch trackpad. So, those are definitely nice touches that add functionality to these new models. The overall consensus is that the new MacBook Air is fine for most people who just need a lightweight computer for email, web-browsing and other general lite tasks. But, if you need to something a little more powerful for resource-intensive tasks like gaming, or photo and video editing, this is not the Mac for you. So, if you’re mainly just looking for a very portable Mac, this is great. If you need something a little more powerful, the MacBook Pro is definitely the way to go.

So, overall, I would say this is a nice batch of new products that Apple has just released. With the Mac mini in particular standing out as a really nice upgrade compared to previous models. And these new iPad Pros will certainly appeal to graphic designers, photo editors and anyone else who wants a very powerful tablet.
More importantly, it does seem like Apple is certainly paying attention to customer needs outside of just the iPhone market, which I think is really important.
